A rarity occurred in the Dutton Award voting this year with two wrestlers from the same school finishing 1-2 in the voting. Mike Stump asked if this has ever happened before and my research found yes, it has happened twice before. Does anyone know when else if has occurred?...
Without looking at my list below. OK a hint, Has anyone outside the Parkersburg South and Independence fan bases know when else it has happened?
Below is a partial list of Dutton Award Winners, Runner-ups and Honorable Mentions going back to 2011. I will try to complete the list before next wrestling season begins. There is a lot great wrestlers on the list that brings up a lot of memories from back in their day. Feel free to add to the list in this thread.
Thanks - Brent

Dutton Award rarity
Re: Dutton Award rarity
Well I guess if your a four timer champ it’s automatic. Only way they could finish 1-2.
Peyton Hall should have won this award once.

Re: Dutton Award rarity
One would think that there is a complete record of such a prestigious award, not just showing the winner of the Dutton but those who placed 2nd or 3rd. There would be some high quality wrestlers listed for sure

Re: Dutton Award rarity
brentsams if you google 2008 Seth Easter Dutton Award you can find a news article from Times West Virginia that lists Andy Thomas, Parkersburg, as Runner-up and Anthony Jeffers, Point Pleasant, and Nick Hylton, Liberty Raleigh, in the HM spot. If you google 2010 Dutton Award Jordon Nolan you will find an article from Herald Dispatch that names Josh Fisher, Roane County, as runner-up and Rusty Maness, Point Pleasant, and Cody Clark, Calhoun County, as HM. Tried to add the links on here, but post was denied.
