Re: IRONMAN WEEKEND
It was Stewart, the 2 seed that didn’t make weight. Kid wrestled lights out against Wright last night. Would have liked to seen that rematch!
Re: IRONMAN WEEKEND
Ohio university commit Raike wins by 11-5 decision over Oklahoma state commit Voinovich to take 3rd at Ironman.
Derek is the first point pleasant wrestler to ever make the podium at Ironman! Congratulations.

Re: IRONMAN WEEKEND
Was a bit nervous for Raike in that semi final match. My opinion he was clearly spiked in a mat return , the way his neck rolled is never fun to see. Then he get hit with an illegal slam, I didn’t think it should have been called .That cost him the match. Glad he didn’t get injured! Congrats on coming back to get 3rd!!!

You sure you aren’t talking about Gabe Arnold? He was the number 2 guy at 170 and he missed weight.
It would be nice if Raike was wearing the old gold and blew damn. Voinivich (sp) is like his brother and is a monster all top. Either a sophomore or junior I can’t remember.
Wasnt Bartee always bigger than Raike or maybe I’m confused lol?
How about that Brody Conley!!!! Wvu getting a good one at a severe weight if need. Looks like a future 174.
Gaige Wright up 30lbs from last year? lol that’s awesome. How tall is this kid? Hope to hell Flynn is recruiting this kid hard. Would love to see him grow into a 184 or even better 197. Not sure if he has the frame for that tho.
Congrats to all the wrestlers who went and competed.

Now let me make sure I understand all of this properly:
1. West Virginia resident Raike, 3X WV State Champion on the road to #4, has signed with Ohio University.
2. Ohio University just clubbed WVU last weekend.
3. It is obvious that WVU made little to no effort to keep Raike at home.
4. Raike places third at Ironman and defeats an Oklahoma State commit in doing so.
5. Oklahoma State is in the Big 12 just like WVU.
6. Oklahoma State likes Voinovich well enough to go after and get him.
7. WVU hasn't and doesn't have an ice cube's chance in Hell of even competing with Oklahoma State.
8. Raike proved he can beat an Oklahoma State bound wrestler.
9. Perhaps Ohio University's plan to compete with Oklahoma State is to sign wrestlers that are beating Oklahoma State commits????
10. WVU's plan is unclear.
Holy smokes. Braxton Amos works out with a landmine now!!!!!!

I saw Derek hit the mat on that “ mat return “ ...made me wince. Have no idea how he kept from getting hurt. Wow
Re: IRONMAN WEEKEND
I am glad to see that everybody wants to see WVU succeed in wrestling. From reading all the posts, it is evident. In recruiting, you will win some and lose some. I know Raike was recruited by WVU. In the end, Ohio U won out. Maybe it was a better situation…don’t know. But if you truly want a winning program it is going to take money. Either contribute to Mountaineer 21 and/or WVRTC. I do both. Without the financial backing of the alumni and friends, WVU won’t be able to compete against the best. Remember only 9.9 total scholarships. The great Greg Jones didn’t have a full ride. So you have to spend wisely and hope you make the right choices. Some kids develop and become studs. Others do not and fizzle. I believe in Coach Flynn & Co. He signed two “studs” last month. One just won Ironman @ 175 over #1 ranked kid in that weight class. They are trying to compete against Pitt, Ohio St, Va Tech for talent. We are close. Again one way we can help the cause is financially support the program.
