Applying 8 points for Champions down to 1 point for 8th it appears that someone believes this is the year when the Ohio & West Virginia fans/tournament workers/teams get to celebrate a South loss.

Beaver Local 68
South 65
Steubenville 55
University 36
Wheeling Park 22

If you have that all worked out I would love a copy of it? Would save me some time lol

Im sure South will wrestle above there rankings with it comes OVAC time! After the dominance South has had in the past years it would be nice to see a competitive tournament.

Just to continue the preseason speculation for fun,...If you award actual team points based on placement it would be as follows:

South = 107 points
Beaver Local = 106 points
Steubenville = 84 points

Looks like pins will be quite important, along with all the other surprises that always happen.
I agree, the competition on a team basis makes it all the more interesting to follow "all" the matches.

As per Shaggy71, he's just putting them where they are based on previous years placements. This year is a whole new season to see who has improved.
It would be great to sneak a dual between South and Beaver Local into the schedule.

First one shows the 8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 points for placements 1-8
Second one shows placement points 16,12,9,7,5,3,2,1 points for placements 1-8
Neither factor in bonus nor advancement points.

Interesting to note that no one is taking issue with my comment that everyone from the fans to the people who work the tournament would be pleased to see South get knocked off.

It is funny that today's talk is about all of this. Just last night, I was chatting with my friend "TrueSouthFanNotToBeRevealedButAnOVACSchoolCoach" and he said Beaver Local and Steubenville had good teams this year and they would present a challenge to South.

I hope the OVAC tournament is packed with action and high competition this season.

For me, I will be attending the WSAZ, which is in Huntington. In Huntington, anything can happen...….ANYTHING!!!!! They are also saying that about Putnam County.
Holy smokes. Braxton Amos works out with a landmine now!!!!!!

Sorry about that Bearhugger. I tried to paste a Word table and it didn't go as planned. Good news is that I learned how to use a snipping tool, save, and post.

It wont be all that close.

Also, South is ranked too low in several weight classes. Namely : 106, 120, 132, 138 and 145

You may be right, however the top 3 currently ranked at 132, 138, and 145 will be tough to beat. Also Shelek is not closer to the top at 145 mainly because he was out injured most of last year until he placed 2nd at 145 only to Carder of PHS.

Not sure I agree with this. I think the team race could be a close one. I don't think South runs away with it. I can see them winning, but I think Beaver Local and Steubenville will definitely make them earn it. Both have very solid lineups this year it appears.

I agree, Shamblin should be a little higher at 132.
But who would 138 and 145 jump over? 138 has Quiocho at 3 behind Hall and the Steubenville kid who are both very good wrestlers. 145 has Roberts at 3 behind Cook and the Beaver kid who are both also very good wrestlers. 132 seems to be an accurate top 3 and 145 could be interchangeable with the top 3 - as in who's wrestling their best that given day.

I don't necessarily think 106 and 120 are huge changes. 106 looks like a toss up right now. 120 looks like East Liverpool, St C, and Steubenville kids are easily the top 3 there with Simpson, Johnson, Richardson, and Beaver kid interchangeable.

Should be a good tournament! Rankings are what they are - an opinion driven by some results. Very interested to see the results between South, Beaver Local, and Steubenville for the top spot!

Updated rankings as of today would put Beaver Local over South by a 107 points to 97 points margin (without being able to factor in any bonus points). Should be fun to watch.

Lets look at this from another perspective. South and Steubenville were both at Ironman. I think I saw Beaver Local there too.

Using Ironman as a gauge, how did these three teams fair against each other?

In addition, if South had more wrestlers participating in Ironman, then we must ask ourselves "why did they have more wrestlers in Ironman as opposed to Steubenville and Beaver Local".

At a quick glance, Wheeling Park looks to have a decent team too. I am not sure where they fall in the mix, but I predict they will have plenty of wrestlers eating up some points in the OVAC.

Once again, I will be at the WSAZ seeing how the WV AA and A contending teams fair against each other along with many roadblocks from other teams.

-This is because individually at last years tournament, South had a champion and a 5th place winner. Also, we finished 11th overall as a team. The better a team does dictates how many wrestlers are invited from that team!

Make no mistake about it, Beaver Local is for real. They have excellent wrestlers at 120, 126, 132, 145, 152, 160, & 170. I saw some of these guys at Ironman and they have placed before at the OVAC tourny. I don't know about their other wrestlers, other than where they are ranked on the OVAeC.org website. As we know, in this tournament it won't be the "stars" who determine the outcome of the tourny. It will be the rest of the lineup and how well they perform and who can accumulate the bonus points for pins, etc. Anyway, everyone has a whole month to prepare.

I am up north and have never heard about this Freshman Logan Ours. Most decorated OAC of all times! That is a lot great Ohio wrestlers.
I would consider B. Amos the top ever WV HS wrestlers at this point.

Logan Ours BvL the most decorated OAC wrestler of all time, 7 state championships & 10 state placements! Ours makes a statement from the get go. He will be challenged by the numerous placers at 126.

Rank Last Name First Name School Grade OVAC 2018 OVAC 2017 OVAC 2016
1 Ours Logan BvL 9th
2 Windland Tucker PS 12th 1st 120 2nd 106 6th 106
3 Staud Jake Univ 11th 2nd 120 3rd 113
4 Blasko Peyton Steub 12th 2nd 113 4th 106

Am I reading this right? 17x on the OAC State podium before he steps on the mat as a freshman? Let's assume that he started when he was 3. If he made the podium for 17 straight years he would be a very mature 19 year old freshman and eventually a 22 year old senior. Could legally purchase tobacco products in middle school and could have a beer at lunch his junior and senior years of high school?

http://ovaec.org/2014/ovac_state_placers.htm

2008-09 1st year in OAC

7 1st places

10 overall placements counting championships.

OAC is the combined state championship there are no divisions. You can Compete in grade school and Jr high your 6th grade year giving you 2 placements that year.
