LCQ Example - Huntington 106lbs

Here is a great example on how the Last Chance Qualifier could make wrestling great again.

At this season’s WSAZ tournament, Huntington High School entered at least three 106 pounders.

Varsity Devin Doss was the #4 seed after scratches. Mr. Doss met his teammate Stone Arthur and pins him in the round of 16.

Arthur drops into consolation and wins some matches to include pinning Ripley’s Nate Cox.

Doss is also later put into the consolation round and eventually has a rematch with Arthur for 7th place. Arthur wins the rematch.

As the season goes on, Doss is the MSAC runner up to Donahue of Parkersburg. Doss also becomes the AAA region 4 runner up. Again losing to Donahue. Donahue is a returning 3rd place winner from the 2017 state tournament and a top contender this season.

Nate Cox of Ripley qualified for the 2018 state tournament by placing 4th in AAA region 4.

In summary, Stone Arthur defeated two wrestlers on the same day at the WSAZ that went on to be state tournament qualifiers(Doss and Cox). Cutting down is not an option whereas he is at 106. Moving up to 113 is worse because Huntington has returning state tournament 4th place winner and 2018 AAA region 4 champion Bowen.

It is possible that Stone Arthur has many other notable victories this season over 2018 state tournament qualifiers. I just do not have that information.

The LCQ would probably make Stone Arthur happy.

We had only one individual ranking this season and Stone Arthur was ranked 8th.

Im confused, I just checked the individual rankings and Arthur is seeded 8th and according to the roster, Arthur was only varsity for 2 duals this year. Easton is also ranked 7th and I just witnessed Doss beat Easton 6-2.
