A team had to drop out and Johnson Central earned their way to the state title game in Kentucky so we will greatly miss them. We will make a couple all star teams and try to get as many extras into the tournament as possible. It's the first weekend of the season and we just want kids getting 5 actual matches if possible. Good luck to everyone wrestling this opening week.

Thank you to all the teams who attended our tournament today. The 11th Mike Ellis Invitational is usually a 16 team dual tourney. Due to low numbers this year we were able to create a 12 team dual tourney. This meant more actual wrestling instead of forfeits. Many jv/extras were also getting mat time.
We had a great crew of officials as well.

More results will be posted.

Team Champions Riverside High School
2nd place Spring Valley
3rd place Parkersburg South JV
4th place Winfield

Lee, I just wanted to tell you that my niece Malloree (one of the two South managers keeping score this weekend) had very nice things to say about the Hurricane matmaids! She said they were very friendly and helpful. Please let them know that.

I started to tell her ahead of time to ask somebody to point you out so she could say hi and tell you she was my niece. :) She said she did tell one of the officials that she was my niece, but she can't remember his name. She said he wore glasses. That narrows it down! LOL!

Jenny,
Nice to hear from you. I did notice South had a couple ladies helping this past weekend. I am glad it was a good experience for them. South was well represented as always. As far as the officials and glasses...... ;)

We had a great group of officials here Saturday. George Keeney even dusted off his stripes to step in for another official who had a death in the family. Good officials make the tournament easier to run.

It was good to see George out on the mat again. He was always one of my favorite refs. In my experience he was universially fair, very knowledgeable, and never confrontational. A true class act.

My first thought was that Malloree was talking about George, but I figured it couldn't have been him since he retired. What is it about us "retirees" that we can't just stay away from this sport we love so much!! :)
