Upon conclusion of the 2019 AA/A state tournament, here are the top 10 teams:

1. Point Pleasant
2. Independence
3. East Fairmont
4. Braxton County
5. Greenbrier West
6. Wirt County
7. Oak Glen
8. Fairmont Senior
9. Bridgeport
10. Hoover

In looking at only these 10 teams, here are the teams in returning team points order:


1. Point Pleasant 98 points

2. Braxton County 42

3. Greenbrier West 41

4. Independence 31

5. East Fairmont 29

6. Oak Glen 28

7. Hoover & Wirt tied with 22

8. Fairmont Senior 21

9. Bridgeport 6


Whereas many say championships are won in the off season, here are the same teams in order of returning STQ:


1. Point Pleasant 13 STQs

2. Braxton & Hoover tied with 8

3. Greenbrier West, Independence and Fairmont Senior tied with 6

4. Oak Glen 5

5. Wirt County 4

6. East Fairmont 3

7. Bridgeport 2

I think both Point and Indy will have some incoming middle schoolers that will score points next year, and I don't think either of them are very worried about Braxton or Greenbrier West, wishful thinking at best.

Don't be worried, but if the schedule isn't already set, it gives one an idea as to who to try and get on your schedule.

I am reviving a post that is from the Monday AFTER last season's state tournament.

The returning STQ points indicated Point Pleasant to be #1 and Braxton County to be #2. Low and behold, who was #1 and #2 yesterday???

Look at the projections from a year ago.

Never underestimate what a program or an individual can do in a year's time.
