AAA Regional Champions Losing First Round

Postby Bearhugger » Fri Feb 26, 2016 9:31 am

In AAA, there were SIX regional champions who lost their opening match against a 4th place winner from another region.

Of these six losing champions, one came from region 4.

The other five losing champions all came from region 2.

Using this information along with next season's new regions................................we should consider a wild card system.

Call me crazy, but 50/56 champs winning is a solid number. Just because you put six in all caps doesn't make it a significant number. I dare say it's barely above average...if it's above at all.

Of the winners of those matches, ho many were from what region? I would imagine that some of those winners were from Region 1.

I think 6 regional champs losing in the first round is higher than what I recall in the past. The bigger point I was implying was that 5 out of the 6 were from region 2.

This gets a step closer to confirming that region 2 is the weakest.

Now that the state tournament is over, I went through the AAA place winners.

14 weight classes. 6 place winners.

14 x 6 = 84 total place winners.

Region 2 had 7.

7 / 84 = 8.3333%

I applaud all of the wrestlers who participate. I am glad the coaches and parents put forth the effort. I wish and hope that all programs will improve.

However, next season more schools are dropping out of AAA. Certain regions will get even tougher due to realignment. There is higher risk for better wrestlers to not qualify while more inferior wrestlers do qualify.
