Re: Heavyweight Stalling
I think for the most part the refs are fine. I guess I would just prefer if they made stalling/fleeing a point of emphasis in heavyweight matches.

Re: Heavyweight Stalling
It seems like the first couple of tournaments I attended this year the officials were calling stalling/fleeing the mat fairly regularly, forcing the heavyweights to wrestle. It almost seemed as though it was a point of emphasis for the officials. The last few tournaments (including Winner's Choice) ...

Re: Heavyweight Stalling
Maybe I misinterpreted your post since I only watched the finals since we had districts that same weekend. I thought the refs did a good job. I read your post as you were complaining that refs don’t call it but upset they called it in the finals. If you were complaining just about consistency than ...

Re: Heavyweight Stalling
"Just because they are big guys, doesn't mean they can't do offensive moves like the rest of the field. Stalling is stalling, doesn't matter the size."
Exactly right.

Re: Heavyweight Stalling
Both heavyweights were hit for stalling in aaa if im correct. neither wrestler was aggressive enough to warrant the second call. Now for the obvious call that decided the match was not a stall but a obvious fleeing the mat call that wouldve for sure resulted in a takedown. in your own words (Howeve...

Heavyweight Stalling
The officials at the State Tournament did a good job. I noticed an uptick on stalling calls in general at the tournament this year, a welcome sight. It appeared that most officials made an effort not to let a wrestler profit from inactivity. However, from what I could tell this did not seem to apply...

Oh please. Any of the pills would upset someone. A lot of weight classes work out well this way. It’s not like one is better than the other. They all suck That's why you seed the regional champions... Just to play devil's advocate... Take...AA/A HWT, for example. JUST seed the champs? Well, Champ A...

I noticed you don't have Meador from Braxton County ranked in Heavyweight. Looks like he is 44-1 and just won the AA/A Region II final over Williams of Grafton, who you have ranked 4th. Just wondering why.
Also, at 44-1, I am wondering who beat Meador.

Re: Winner's Choice Teams that are registered to attend
I don't see what the problem is here. Bearhugger did not say that the people who run Winner's Choice (and other tournaments) don't know what they are doing. He did not say he wants to run it. He made suggestions concerning possibly improving that tournament (and others) to allow for potentially incr...

Re: 28th Annual MASON COUNTY OPEN
Good match between Zane Lanham and Austin Cook. They wrestled twice. Cool was up 4-1 and got gassed and lost in OT 6-4. Very good match. Second match, Lanham was able to get a reversal and won 2-0. Loved this tournament. What weight did they wrestle? They wrestled 16-18 at 185 and in open division ...

Re: What would I do?
As I sit here and ponder the hot topic from this year’s tournament. I sit here and ask myself, what would I do if I was in that situation. First, I would not want to be shortsighted. I would not want the prestige and excitement of holding a wooden plaque in my hand to blind me from doing the right ...

Re: Alex Hart
It is not as simple as just changing the score and belatedly awarding the title to Alex Hart. As you are all aware, the score frequently dictates how you wrestle - which shots you take and don't take. Mr. Ward would have a valid argument that if the score were "fixed" pursuant to Coach Har...

Congratulations to all of the seniors who won their first state championship last night. These young men had a lot of pressure on them as it was their last chance to win it all. From what I can tell, they are: Davy Mundey - 152 - Berkeley Springs Hunter Moore - 170 - Wirt County Paul Frampton - 182 ...

The coming out and acting like you’re in the WWE on the mat before you wrestle. A few guys get a victory and cowboy’d their coach on the mat TWICE, throw your headgear across to the other mat, point up in the stands after you win. Saw a haymaker thrown! Seems like everybody is Showboat! Everybody l...

1. To put the "small schools in Calfiornia still have 1100 students" statement into perspective. Large high schools in California have over 5000 students. That's a difference of 4000. My point was more about the ability to field a team. A "small" California school with 1000 wres...

I’m not sure if he’s 45 or 52 but I wouldn’t leave Ward from Winfield out. Shamblin from Sissonville at 220 could also pull the upset. I predict Ward will win his region. I have not seen the Wahama 220 wrestle this season and that alone could be a problem due to a weak schedule. Serevicz from Waham...

Anything that creates/perpetuates interest in the sport is a good thing. The polls do that. Do they matter? They don't matter in the sense that wins and losses are not determined by rankings in the polls. But if creating interest in the sport "matters", then the polls matter. Further, it i...
