Injured athlete from football cleared to wrestle

A former wrestler was hurt this season in football and was told by doctors he would not be able to wrestle this season. After strenuous recovery and desire, two doctors have 100% cleared this athlete to wrestle.

Since he was told he wouldn't be able to wrestle. The athlete did not get weight certified.

1 Is he out for the season by rules?
2 Can he get weight certified?
3 He can get his required practices in.
4 His grades are stellar.

This would be no different than a transfer student joining the team or someone joining mid season. Physical, 14 Practices, 2.0, and wt cert and he's ready to wrestle.

Wondering if they would have needed to have been listed on the roster / eligibility list that is required to be filed before the first contest of the year.

Not sure about the weight certification.

I'm sure someone knows the answers. But it may be better for you to contact WVSSAC and ask them.

New athletes can be added during the season as they gain eligibility. Its the same as someone not being eligible the first semester and gaining eligibility the second semester. I am our MS athletic director. We have these issues every season will most of our sports. Hope this helps and Im glad your athlete is cleared to wrestle. We need as many tough kids as we can get. Good Luck

Sure has been a rash of football injuries (and other) this season. I'm glad for the young man or any young man/woman who is healthy enough to compete.

I am NOT speaking about this specific individual whereas I do not know the details.

However, generally speaking, the overall lack of consistent weight training is contributing to injuries and the lack of ability to be able to compete in the higher profile tournaments.

As long as he gets the required practices in and has the grades, he can be weight certified by a doctor and can wrestle. We had two guys join the team after we weight certified and they are now wrestling. Check at your local "quick care" location as they may be able to do the weight certification for you.

The athlete should be allowed to compete. I do not think there are rules penalizing a person who was injured before season and gets cleared to compete during season. I have been wrong before though. Some schools or counties might have policies that might not allow it (silly policies).

Question: Can an injured wrestler receive a forfeit if they make weight?

I am just glad the wrestler is able to make a come back.

We will all know who it is in due time.

The focus needs to be on injury prevention!!!!!!!!!!

Latdrop220 ain't gonna like this but I found something interesting on the top gun preview looks like a familiar name from Huntington is back

We should brace ourselves for questions about eligibility and then comments about gas tanks. It's that time of year

Key word is projections.

Both Baileys of St. Albans, Minihan and Mills of Huntington are all listed. None have been wrestling this season.

Also Humphreys and Starkey are listed at 138.

Those are "projections" for the Top Gun that have been out for a while. There are kids in the wrong weight classes, kids who still aren't on their teams rosters, and kids who have transferred to other schools. I think Latdrop220 is safe for now.
