As a wrestler, a coach, a parent or a fan, would you prefer your wrestler(s) to face their top state tournament competition:
a) at least once during the regular season?
b) meet them for the first time at the state tournament.
Opinions vary. To each their own. Just curious what the general consensus is.
Which do you prefer??

I’m not a fan of wrestling the same teams over and over. Seems like you’d get better by wrestling different competition
In the end we win

Re: Which do you prefer??
As a fan I say it depends. If it is two highly ranked wrestlers or defending state champs from different weights I like for their first matchup to be in Huntington so we can all predict (unless one of the wrestlers is from ripley, predictions hurt feelings) and argue leading up to the finals.
I also like the back and forth series where wrestlers are familiar with each other and have split results over the season. Only bad thing about those matches is that familiarity sometimes creates boring matches. Familiarity also sometimes breeds contempt when the same wrestler loses yet again (as we saw in at least two of the finals this year).

Iron sharpens iron.
They may not even meet at state. Upsets happen every year.
