There is only 1 that should be the Dutton award winner, if he wins his third state championship Justin Allman of Parkersburg South. Dosent matter what they do in the national tournaments. This is for the West Virginia wrestling season!! Now there are other great wrestlers but no one will have the chance to win their Third Straight this year. I have witnessed kids become
All Americans in the National tournament with only 3 or 4 kids in their weigh classes. Remember it is for the best wrestler in the State during the season!!

What if Allman loses to Adams by a fairly large margin at the wsaz tournament? Then how could he possibly receive the Dutton award?

Pretty sure Jacob Hart beat two returning state champs as a freshman and sophomore to begin his bid as a 4x champion. This topic has my mind spinning. Some people don't get it

Mattman I agree with you and bearhugger I think there are more than one solid candid for the dutton. And I thought it was awarded to the WV wrestler with the most dominant wrestling career. I didn't think A/AA or AAA classification or location in the state mattered.

Oh, OK. I thought we were still having the A/AA tournament this year, my bad ;)

An interesting discussion would be, starting next year, when there are more than twice as many A/AA schools as AAA schools, which will be harder to place in?

I'm pretty sure marquise Frazier beat Allman 8-2 last year . The same Noah Adams beat Frazier earlier in the year . Adams majors Allman at wsaz is my prediction:)

Mr Psouthbeatindy.......After the comment you made on the other evening, It makes me wonder why you would contradict yourself. I think that Adams vs Allman will be quite a match to say the least. I'd leave it alone until that day arrives !!!

Based on what I have read, the mystery wrestler is making his debut at 195lbs. I hear "Parts Unknown" has a good peewee program and they also have a Big Red running their middle school. This kid might step in and whip Adams and Allman both on the same day.
Holy smokes. Braxton Amos works out with a landmine now!!!!!!

Bearhugger wrote:Last season the Dutton Award got more discussion and debate than any of the most recent seasons.

Here is who I see as the only contenders:

Class of 2016:
Simpkins/Ripley
Moore/Roane

Class of 2017:
Adams/Independence
Hart/Independence
Allman/South

Class of 2018:
Humphreys/St. Albans
Henson/University

History shows that a senior is selected.
These guys are not in any order.
Each wrestler mentioned has accomplished more than any other wrestlers in their graduating classes.
There are many other wrestlers who are very good and could set the world on fire in college, etc but they haven't achieved what the wrestlers mentioned above have.

The season is approximately half over and the WSAZ is upon us. Here is where we are based on my knowledge:

Class of 2016:
Simpkins/Ripley - Undefeated in WV competition this season.
Moore/Roane - Lost via decision to Humphreys/Class of 2018.

Class of 2017:
Adams/Independence - Undefeated in WV competition this season.
Hart/Independence - Undefeated in WV competition this season.
Allman/South - Undefeated in WV competition this season.

Class of 2018:
Humphreys/St. Albans - Lost via decision to Henson/Class of 2018.
Henson/University - Undefeated in WV competition this season.

Lucas Simpkins is this year Dutton Award winner. He's the best pound for pound wrestler in the state.

Depending on which weight class he chooses (195 or 220), Nice of Magnolia will win that class. That changes your Dutton Award conversation.

I think that the 195 lb class will be won by Allman at the WSAZ and State Tournament. This young man keeps getting better and better as the year goes along. Taking nothing away from any of the other wrestlers but this kid is gets fire in his eyes when it comes to becoming a State Champion. Not many wrestlers have entered their freashman year and won above 170.My vote for the best pound for pound wrestler in wv.

Go to Fargo and place in the Junior Nationals..now that is real bragging power.

did any of these kids place in the Jr. Nationals in Fargo?

To put this into perspective, the VA Beach Nationals are obviously much tougher than the West Virginia State tournament. WV had many top wrestlers (state champs, runner ups, 3rd, etc) compete in the VA nationals. WV only had ONE, I repeat, ONE wrestler win it. I do not recall WV having anybody else make the finals. I think 6th place was the best any other WV wrestler did. If the VA Nationals are watered down, then WV should have had many champions.

: If I recall wv had 6 all Americans . Noah Adams being the only winner last season. Out if l the competitors to go 6 placed.' Fargo is indeed a different tournament , but it's also a different style of wrestling. There are more than a few options for the dutton award. Just because allman has an S on his Chest, doesn't mean he is a shoe in.

Please allow me to clarify what I was saying. Last season, WV sent many state champs, runner ups and other state placers to the watered down VA Nationals. Only one won it last season. With that being said, one can quantify that the VA nationals is tougher than the WV State tournament.

On another note, we got another 1 1/2 months before the Dutton Award is given out. All the top wrestlers will be under the same roof at the Z.

Z FEVER................................catch it.

Noah wrestled freestyle like 3-4 months in his life, went to Fargo and placed. Noah never wrestled Greco in his life, went to Fargo and placed. As far as the jr division goes?! He has zero control of his age and I will be willing to bet he places in the jr division this year. The kid works hard and that's the reason he is going to a division 1 power in college. Almost like certain folks hate to see a kid succeed. I'd love to see any kid from my state bust his ass and save their parents some tuition money. Haters all over the world!

The Dutton award is named after a great person in the sport of wrestling but it has not been managed correctly. :-(
