Re: Feast or Famine
It looks to me like the teams in each region are based on location, not placement at states.

Re: WVYWA Regionals
6 regions, top 4 from each. 24 wrestlers in each, has to be a 32 man bracket with byes for 6 wrestlers, right? I believe there will be 8 byes in the first round. Six regional champs and two runners up from the same region as the top two seeded regional wrestlers. J.W. or someone else on here can co...

Re: Defunct Programs and New Programs
When do Oak Hill, Fayetteville, Midland Trail, and Meadow Bridge Consolidate? Looks like AA/A will lose a few teams when they do and AAA will add one. You may see Oak Hill, Fayetteville and Midland Trail consolidate eventually, but I don't see Meadow Bridge being in that consolidation. The first 3 ...

Re: Defunct Programs and New Programs
I can't speak for Wheeling Central, Bishop Donahue or Parkersburg Catholic, but I believe Meadow Bridge had issues with a lack of interested coaches and a dwindling team size.

Re: WVYWA Regionals
If a last-minute amendment were implemented qualifying the top 3-4 Junior state placers for the WVYWA I would likely take advantage. Just a thought... That is not a bad idea, however that means bumping someone who did attend the regionals. The only exception would be if there was an empty spot in t...

Re: WVYWA Regionals
In my defense...I didn't begin the chatter. I merely saw that Coach Williams wanted "someone to show him" where he had degraded Jr States and I complied with his request. I never intended to assert anything about anyone's greed or egos. And I showed you where that was not derogatory. I ne...

Re: Time for 3 classes
I don't see how having 3 instead of 2 classes has much of an impact. Indy is consistently at the top of the AA/A list and consistently one of the top 3 or 4 teams in the state overall, yet they are 27th in AA/A school size and 56th in the state in school size. Morgantown is the 2nd largest AAA schoo...

Re: WVYWA Regionals
Coach williams, calling jr states an open tournament bc you don't have to qualify to be there is kind of a sad statement. What makes the new state that much better? There were region 6 champions struggling to place at a Novice tournament this past weekend. A 4u 45 wresler qualified 6u 50 or 55 at r...

Re: WVYWA Regionals
Was the date deliberately placed on the 1st weekend of march? Is it fair to say everyone involved in youth wrestling knows that has been the date Jr States has been held for years. Its been public knowledge that tons of kids want to attend both - but cant ( while others can) while 1 region gets to ...

Re: WVYWA Regionals
Coach Williams. Below is YOUR post from Jan. 4. Due to the inaccuracies that are contained within that post and your recent post saying that you have never disparaged the Jr State Tournament, your credibility is looking a little shaky. I have also seen you post what I believe is inaccurate informat...

Re: WVYWA Regionals
"Coach Wiliams" - You want to get on here and constantly degrade the Jr. States, the WVSSAC and any other group/individual that does not agree with you. Why are you not boasting about the huge numbers that attended the region tournament this two weekends ago in Jackson County? You have po...

Re: Obstructed view/fighting for good seats
Coach 82. I don't think that you researched your overnight stay in Wheeling. There are 6 national chain motels at the Highlands alone. As for eating, there are several great places to eat at the Highlands. Perhaps it was just closer for you to stay in Ohio. Don't be too quick to sell Wheeling short...

Re: moving state tournament
I am surprised that people cant understand that a city has to bid on it and have a team willing to run it. What is the WVSSAC supposed to do force a city govt to bid on the tourney? Last time I believe Huntington was the only city to bid. Until another city steps and bids and has a team to r...

Re: WVSSAC
This issue is a prime example of why we often see coach's children excel at the sport their parent coaches. The WVSSAC can not limit interaction between parent/coach and child/athlete, so those kids get extra attention in the off-season.

Re: Obstructed view/fighting for good seats
Playing off of Bucktail's comment, (I know this won't be a super popular idea) why not split the AAA and AA/A tournaments and have one at Big Sandy and the other at Wheeling or Morgantown and then the next year flip flop it. So one year we would have AAA at Huntington and AA/A at WVU or Wheeling and...

Re: Obstructed view/fighting for good seats
I attended the OVACs at Wheeling this year and the first thing I said when we walked in was how much nicer it was than Huntington. Plus they have one of this big four-sided LED screens hanging from the ceiling where they broadcast matches to, so you can see the wrestling there even if you are not in...

Re: WVYWA Regionals
I personally spoke to a Western Greenbrier coach whom needed the regional chairmans info. To enter some wrestlers in the WVYWA. Hopefully he git in contact with him in time. I spoke to him as well. Said the same to me. He said he expects the entire team to be there with exception of maybe one wrest...

Re: WVYWA Regionals
The numbers for both are gonna be poor. I've already heard middle school numbers are so low they'll accept whoever wants to come. That is per a text message forwarded to me today trying to get wrestlers. My sons jr states bracket has 9 kids. I'll bet WVYWA isn't any better. I'm seriously considerin...

Re: WVYWA Middle School Division
Pretty sure you cannot go down in weight unless you either qualified at that weight or wrestled WSAZs at that weight. So say you qualified or wrestled WSAZs at 100lbs you cannot go to the regionals and wrestle 95lbs but you can wrestle 110lbs. You cannot move down without making weight at a qualifi...

Re: WVYWA Middle School Division
So if they didn't start wrestling until after Dec. 31st then odds are they never had to make base weight. And then you are giving them an additional pound so is the 80 pound class now 81? Just my .02 cents, but I feel like you are worried about something that is not an issue. Did you question wheth...

Re: WVYWA Middle School Division
To clarify, there is a 1 pound allowance at regionals and a 2 pound allowance at the championships. Regarding kids moving down a weight class because of the allowance, that is certainly a risk. I don't see many kids moving down to 78 because of a 1 pound allowance though. If they couldn't make base ...

Re: New before state rankings are bogus
@wrestlingfan23202 I agree. Earlier in the year I questioned the 220 rankings and some people got their panties twisted up over it. I won't mention that wrestlers name or rank again, but how a wrestler can remain in the top 5 on the coaches poll all season while getting pinned by unranked wrestlers,...

Re: WVSSAC
I have found the off-season contact to be an issue. I understand not wanting a coach to make it mandatory that kids spend their entire young lives invested in a sport, but what if a young athlete WANTS to spend their free time in the off-season getting better at their sport? Why should they be inhi...

Re: WVYWA Middle School Division
Do they have to have made base weight during the season'? This is from the front page of the WVYWA website. The way I interpret it is they do not have to have established a base weight. Middle school wrestlers do not need to wrestle in a West Virginia Youth Wrestling Association Qualifying Tourname...

Re: AAA Region 3 Predictions
Some good predictions. Only thing odd about them that stood out was one of you has predicted the #2 wrestler in the state at 138 to not place in the top 4 in the region. But Im sure stranger things have happened :) Gotta be a good upset there somewhere, right? My logic was simple. Green has to get ...
